JAKARTA - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) expressed its stance of not tolerating any form of violence in the university environment.
This was stated by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto in response to the cases of violence that have occurred in the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia (FHUI) that have occurred recently.
"Universities must be a safe, dignified, and integral space for all academic staff. Therefore, we emphasize that there should be no tolerance for any form of violence on campus, in any form," said the Minister of Education and Technology, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 14.
Minister Brian stated that universities must ensure a safe, inclusive, and free environment from all forms of violence, whether physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, or digital-based violence.
"Every action that degrades human dignity is a serious violation and must be dealt with seriously, fairly, and in favor of victim protection," he said.
In the context of policy, Brian explained that handling this case refers to the Ministry of Education and Culture Decree Number 55 of 2024 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Higher Education Environment, which covers all forms of violence, including sexual, verbal, psychological, bullying, as well as discrimination and intolerance.
This regulation requires each university to form and strengthen the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the University Environment (PPKPT Task Force), as well as to ensure the protection and recovery of victims.
If during the handling process, criminal elements are found, continued Brian, law enforcement will refer to Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes in accordance with applicable provisions.
"I have also coordinated with the Rector (UI), and we continue to monitor the development of handling this case, including ensuring that the parties who are victims receive the necessary protection and assistance," said Brian.
As a concrete step, he said, the Ministry of Education and Technology is coordinating with UI to ensure that the handling process is carried out according to procedures, monitoring the performance of the PPKPT Task Force, ensuring that victims receive protection, assistance, and recovery services, and encouraging transparency and accountability in the investigation process.
As part of strengthening access to reporting, the public and academic community can submit reports through the LAPOR! Channel (SP4N-LAPOR), the PPKPT Task Force at each university, as well as through the official complaint channel of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education at the Call Center: 126, [email protected], and 085186069126.
The Ministry of Education and Technology stated its commitment to ensuring that the implementation of policies to prevent and handle violence is consistent across all universities; Strengthening the prevention system through education, supervision, and institutional strengthening; Encouraging the imposition of administrative and legal sanctions in a firm manner; and Monitoring the creation of a safe, inclusive, and ethical campus culture.
"Kemdiktisaintek emphasizes that universities must be spaces that uphold human values, justice, and integrity, and are free from all forms of violence," said Brian Yuliarto.
